New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 60 runs in the opening match of the Champions Trophy [ NZ VS PAK ].
Before telling you about the match, I want to tell you that after 29 years, Pakistan is hosting an ICC event. The last time Pakistan hosted an ICC event was the 1996 ODI World Cup. It will be a matter of great pleasure for the Pakistan Management Board and Pakistan team that Pakistan is hosting such events again.
This event will start with Pakistan’s match against New Zealand in Karachi’s national stadium. This is the first match of the 9th edition of the Champions Trophy.

The match between Pakistan and New Zealand was going to be very important because if anyone loses, they will have to win the next two matches to qualify for the semi-finals, and neither team would want to start with a defeat.

Note: Fakhar Zaman was injured but included in the batting order.

1st Innings
Devon Coway and Will Young come to start the innings for New Zealand and Shaheen Afridi handles the opening bowling of Pakistan.
- The match starts and New Zealand’s openers have given a good start to New Zealand, scoring 39 runs in 7 overs.
- But in the next over, Abrar Ahmed dismissed Devon Conway, and in the next over Naseem Shah took the big fish Kane Williamson on just 1 run on the very first bowl of the over
- Score after 10 overs 48-2
- Daryl Mitchell comes out to bat and provides good support to Will Young
- But Haris Rauf dismissed Daryl Mitchell on the second ball of the seventeenth over. (16.2 overs ) Score (73-3).
- New batsman Tom Latham comes to the crease. Tom Latham and Will Young had a good partnership. Meanwhile, Will Young completes his century
- Will Young get out on the bowling of NASEEM Shah on the second ball of the thirty-seventh over.
- New batsman Glenn Phillips comes to the crease.
- score after 40 overs 207-4
- Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham had a good partnership
- Meanwhile, Tom Latham also completes his century.
- Glenn Phillips was playing a stunning innings. Philips hits 61 runs on just 39 bowls.
- In the last over Glenn Phillips departs.
- Newzealand managed to set the target of 321 runs for the Pakistan team with Tom Latham and Will Young’s brilliant performances.
2nd Innings
- The second inning starts and Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel come to open for Pakistan.
- Pakistan’s first wicket falls in the fourth over in the form of Syed Shakeel.
- Rizwan departs on the last ball of the 10th over and Pakistan is not able to do anything in the first 10 overs.
- Pakistan’s score after 10 overs is 22 runs with the loss of two wickets.
- Then Fakhar Zaman comes to support Babar but he too is not able to stay at the crease for long and Fakhar also departs at 24 (41)
- After 20 over the score was 69-3
- Babar Azam was standing on one side of the crease but he was playing very slowly.
- Salma Agha came to support him and started batting rapidly.
- Salman Agha and Tayyab Tahir departed in the 31st and 32nd over. and Pakistan’s score was 128-5.
- Pakistan is lagging behind in the match because on one side Pakistan is continuously losing wickets and the other side Babar Azam is also playing very slowly.
- Pakistan’s last hope also ended after Babar Azam lost his wicket after 2 overs. The score was 153-6 after 34 overs.
- Now Pakistan had to score 168 runs in 16 overs, which was almost impossible.
- Khushdil Shah and Shaheen Afridi were at the crease. Khushdil Shah played a good innings but he could not win the match for Pakistan.
- Khushdil Shah got out, and while fighting the lower order also got out and the Pakistan team could only manage to score 260 runs in 47.2 overs.
- New Zealand won the match by 60 runs.
The defending champions made their start in the tournament with a loss. And now they have to win the next two matches to qualify Which is not easy at all because their next match is against India.

New Zealand’s next challenge
New Zealand will be breathing a sigh of relief after defeating the defending champions in their first match.
New Zealand will play its next match against Bangladesh on 24 February in Rawalpindi and they would like to confirm their qualification in the semi-finals by winning this match.
New Zealand will never want to lose the match against Bangladesh because their next match is against India and it is going to be a close contest.
Pakistan’s road to victory
The defending champions had lost their first match against New Zealand but they would like to continue their tournament journey by winning both the next matches.
Pakistan’s next match is against India which is going to be very exciting, and Pakistan will have to win this match at any cost otherwise they will almost be out of this tournament.
